Antique jewelry tends to be of high value, so buying this type of jewelry can be expensive.  However, if you know where to look, you can purchase antique jewelry at wholesale prices.

A large number of people feel that eBay and other online auctions are the best places to start.  This can be a good choice occasionally, however, most people who are selling are aware of the price for the item they are offering, and it is usually very high.

There are other techniques you can try to find antique jewelry at or even below wholesale prices.  One thing you can do is have a look at your local newspaper to find garage and estate sales.

Typically, at these sales, the people holding the sale really don’t know the value of what they have.  You have a chance to buy hundreds or even thousands of dollars of rare and antique jewelry for pennies on the dollar.  At one such sale, I was able to come across a mood ring from the 70’s that included a book with an explanation of mood ring color meanings.

It is important that you not look too closely at the jewelry when you are buying it.  If the piece is valuable, you don’t want the seller to know how valuable it is!

It is not your problem that the seller didn’t bother to get the jewelry appraised.  Keep a straight face, keep your happiness and joy to yourself, and pay the fifty cents or two bucks that they want for the piece, get in your car and head to a trusted jeweler for an appraisal!

You may find that the piece isn’t worth much, however, there are times when you will come across some real values.  Not only that, if the piece has little or no value, you could break it down and use it for parts if you like to make jewelry.

Locating antique jewelry at wholesale prices is fun and exciting.  In fact, spending those Saturday mornings at the yard sales and estate sales may even become addicting!

I have found that the very best place to find antique jewelry at wholesale prices are at estate sales.

Especially those where the grandchildren just want to get rid of grandma’s old jewelry.

In addition, it might be a good idea to check for bargains on eBay from time to time.  Keep an watchful eye on the jewelry categories, including antique and vintage.

It goes without saying that if you do find an item you want to make a bid for, be sure to verify that the seller has good feedback.  If the piece is a bit costly, take advantage of the escrow service that eBay offers.

Lastly, make contact with the seller before you purchase so you can be sure of exactly what you are getting.
